While the bent is planned to be more acoustic and lite, we retain the right to open it up. Beru Revue features the amazing guitar work of Greg Davis and Mark Julian Teague, EJ Simpson on mandolin, John Ferenzik on piano, Nita Slater, and Jerry Getz on bass ukulele and percussion. For us this is uncharted territory. It should be real scream. (Help me) "Shall we? Let’s! Whoop! Whoop! Whoop!"

ABOUT THE SHOW

Steve Butler & Edward Rogers

Edward Rogers and Stephen Butler are both Zip Records artists. They bonded over a mutual love and respect for British singer-songwriter, Duncan Browne. Over the past few years, they've written several songs together, resulting in the duo’s debut EP, Diana Dorrs, which will be released on Zip Records in early 2019. Rogers is a British-born, NYC-based singer/songwriter with seven solo albums. His most recent release, TV Generation, pairs his authentic and reflective lyricism with his powerful melodic voice “As much as he reminds me of Kevin Ayers, there is also plenty of Ray Davies and perhaps a bit of Bill Fay. Rogers’ songwriting skills are easily and fairly compared to these fine songwriters.” DC Live. Edward has played in the US, Europe and the UK several times. He has been invited to open for several artists such as Colin Blunstone of The Zombies, Dave Davies of The Kinks, The Zombies, Ian Hunter and Terry Reid and has also performed many solo shows. Most recently, he was on a U.S. tour with Marty Willson-Piper (The Church, All About Eve, The Saints). Butler is an American singer-songwriter and along with his brother Brian, one of the founding members of Smash Palace. The group’s 12 th CD, Right As Rain, was designed to be your soundtrack for the summer of 2018. Butler does what he does best… 60′s jangle rock, 70′s rock swagger, 80′s power pop, 90′s Brit rock all rolled into a contemporary style that’s all his own. It’s like listening to songs you know but haven’t heard before. “a swath of British Invasion verve, an effortless blend moving with a catchy rock swagger that’s infectious enough to require Cipro.” Philadelphia Weekly. Stephen Butler was first discovered by Hilly Kristal at CBGB’s then signed to Columbia Records, as a member of Quincy. His band, Smash Palace, was later signed to Epic Records. He was rediscovered by Zip Records; label president Arthur Herman after playing a show at the Cavern Club in Liverpool, 2005.

Marty Willson-Piper

Marty Willson-Piper is best known for his tenure as a lead guitarist, singer/songwriter and occasional bass player, with disparate acts - The Church, All About Eve and The Saints, covering Psychedelia, Goth and Punk. As a songwriter he has written songs for and with Charlie Sexton - Bob Dylan's guitarist, Aimee Mann, Jules Shear, Linda Perry and Grace Slick from the seminal ‘60s band Jefferson Airplane. Brought up close to Liverpool in England, his influences have made him a prolific writer where he has covered even more genres with a slew of solo albums as lead singer and as guitarist and singer/lyricist with other eclectic projects, including four albums with English project Noctorum and long time collaborator Dare Mason, one album with MOAT, a collaboration with German/Swedish composer Niko Röhlcke (a member of one of Sweden’s biggest bands Weeping Willows) and staying in Sweden, he has also become a member of legendary Swedish Progressive Rock band Anekdoten as a guitarist, touring with them all over Europe, Japan and even Armenia. He keeps informed as to contemporary music as well as being an authoritative music historian. His In Deep Music Archive website covers an eclectic range of thoughtful musical essays. The In Deep Music Archive is widely acknowledged as one of the planet’s biggest personal record collections, ranging from Classical music to Jazz, Punk, Prog, Pop, Funk, Soul, R&B and Electronic sounds, with an ultimate goal of preserving the collection for posterity as an archive of music history. Marty also teaches songwriting and guitar through his website and has performed all over the world with his own band featuring interchangeable line ups. This latest fascinating incarnation features his wife Olivia Willson-Piper on violin and long-time bassist and New York resident Hannah Moorhead, with guitarist and namesake Don Piper. He performs an eclectic collection of songs from all aspects of his long history that invites all music lovers to experience Marty as a singer, a songwriter, a guitar player and a storyteller.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Drummer Simon Kirke kept the beat as a founding member of two of the 70s most popular bluesy hard rocker bands - Free and Bad Company. A multi-instrumentalist, Kirke is best known for his loose, yet powerful back-beat drumming and for co-writing hits like, "All Right Now," "Can't Get Enough," "Bad Company" and "Ready for Love," with longtime bandmate and singer, Paul Rodgers. Though Simon is often found out on the road touring with Bad Company or Ringo's Starr & His All-Star Band, he continues to be a prolific singer-songwriter and storyteller, performing inspiring fresh material from his new solo album, "All Because of You," his third full-length solo LP, qualifies as an escape – with a catch: The hard-grooving percussionist spends most of his time in front of the band, crooning into a microphone while strumming a guitar or ukulele. All Because of You maintains a bubbly simmer throughout – even on a uke-driven cover of the earthy Bad Company anthem "Feel Like Making Love" that wouldn't sound out of place on a Collective Soul LP.

GARTH HUDSON is a multi-instrumentalist and co-founder of the legendary and internationally influential rock group THE BAND. Martin Scorcese filmed them with a few well-known friends in The Last Waltz. Garth was a principal architect of the group’s unique sound. His mastery of the Lowrey organ led to his being called “the most brilliant organist in rock and roll” by Time magazine. His other primary instruments include piano, electronic keyboards, tenor sax, soprano sax, and accordion. He has recorded and/or performed with Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Marianne Faithful, Gipsy Kings, Norah Jones, Los Lobos, Van Morrison, Robert Palmer, Wilco, Neko Case, Thumbs Carllile, Eric Clapton, Dr. John, Bill Frisell, and dozens more, as well as contributing music to such films as Raging Bull and The Right Stuff. He recorded and played on the original Basement Tapes and released them in 2014. Garth’s own albums include The Sea To The North, Live at the Wolf, Music For Our Lady Queen Of Angels, and Garth Hudson Presents A Canadian Celebration Of The Band. He is in a duo with Sister Maud Hudson, his wife; has a 12-piece band; lectures; consults; and teaches master classes when time allows. Presently, he’s preparing the syllabus for The Garth Hudson School of Music in Sweden, which will feature his innovative learning techniques. Awards include Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Canada Walk of Fame, and NY Blues Hall of Fame Legendary Blues Artist 2015.

SISTER MAUD HUDSON is a remarkable and versatile singer known for her unique renditions of both familiar and obscure songs. She grew up in Los Angeles. Among the artists she’s performed and/or recorded with are The Band, Albert Collins, Paul Butterfield, Clifford Scott, Ronnie Hawkins, Hirth Martinez, Dr. John, Cyndi Lauper, Danny Elfman, Geoff Muldaur, Eric Andersen, Kevin Hearn, The Sadies, Don Crawford, Gavin Friday, and Mary Margaret O’Hara. Rick Danko described Sister Maud as a brilliant singer, and she has received praise from author Greil Marcus and L.A. Times critic Robert Hilburn, among other notable writers. No Depression Magazine wrote, “Sister Maud sang with such unadorned elegance that it hushed the packed hall.” Awards include New York Blues Hall of Fame Legendary Blues Artist 2015.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Nalani & Sarina proudly announce the release of The Circle their first full-length album on Telepathy Records, distributed worldwide by Kobalt Music Group/AWAL.

In the review of the album's first single, Young & Inexperienced, Billboard.com raved "Like other great songwriters, Nalani and Sarina are channeling the emotions of their era." The Circle resulted from two years worth of songwriting; "We kept writing song after song" says Nalani, "experimenting with different styles and methods of recording which best fit the individual tracks." Sarina adds, "The vision for the album evolved so naturally. The songs almost answered one another."

Though universal in nature, the album focuses on issues facing young adults, such as job frustrations, finding one's purpose in the world, and the endless ups and downs of inter-personal relationships. Legendary rock critic and SiriusXM host Dave Marsh has already called The Circle a "splendid melding of 'classic' and contemporary styles, and (I) have not heard anything like it in a good long while, or at least anything like it at this quality level."

Look for them at festivals throughout the Northeast this summer, and on their first full-scale national tour scheduled for this fall.

ABOUT THE SHOW

JEFFREY GAINES

Throughout his two-and- a-half- decade recording career, Jeffrey Gaines has maintained an impressive standard for soul-searching, introspective lyrics and catchy, uplifting melodies. Since bursting on the scene with his self-titled 1992 debut album, the charismatic singer-songwriter-guitarist has built a beloved body of recordings that’s won him a large and deeply devoted international fan base. Now, after an extended absence from the recording studio, Gaines returns with Alright, his first Omnivore Recordings release and his first set of new studio material since 2003’s Toward the Sun. The new album features ten irresistible examples of the Philadelphia-based artists personally charged songcraft, performed with the same effortless exuberance that's long been a hallmark of Gaines’ artful recordings and his dazzling live performances.

"The biggest pleasure I derive from this is playing live," Gaines notes. “There’s nothing more satisfying for me than a good live gig. I’m in control, but the audience can take it to a place that’s higher than I can imagine. When I show up for a live gig, I don't need much, there is no rider. It’s just, turn it on, let the audience in, and we'll do the rest. It’s the best job anyone could ever have.”

MATT PORTELLA

“Everything is music and music is everything.” -- Matt Portella

For singer/songwriter Matt Portella, music isn’t just a passion…it’s a calling. Inspired by music at an early age, Portella was drawn to the incomparable songwriting, harmonies, and arrangements of The Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, and John Denver, and later by the dynamic stage presence of Kiss’ Ace Frehley. But it was always the full-bodied, raw and truthful sound of the acoustic guitar that stuck with him and would later become an integral part of his signature sound.

Early on, he looked to artists like Neil Finn of Split Enz and Crowded House who were redefining the music scene with an honesty, depth and emotion rarely heard in that generation, and started writing and performing his own music. Portella’s fan base immediately began growing from his first public gigs throughout the Philadelphia and South Jersey region. He quickly built a reputation in the singer/songwriter community as a must-see performer and was soon sharing the stage with some of the most acclaimed names in the industry including Dave Mason, The Bacon Brothers, Jeffrey Gaines and more.

By 2012, Portella was ready to commit to his first full length album with a complete band. He teamed up with bassist Fran Smith, Jr. from The Hooters and released Fractured Image in 2013. The CD was produced by Portella and co-produced by Smith and Andy Kravitz (Juliana Hatfield, Life of Agony). Tod Howarth (Ace Frehley’s Comet, Cheap Trick) joined in on some of the backing vocals. The 10-track album which was recorded in both NJ and CA received critical acclaim from the press and fans alike for songs like ““Boys”, “Three (Everyday)” and “Funeral”. Describing the album best is Pop Break which wrote, “Fractured Image defines who Matt Portella is as a person and as an artist. The record has something for everyone no matter what genre you’re into. He has succeeded in producing a vibrant, appealing album from beginning to end and it comes highly recommended.”

Representative of Portella’s knack for connecting with his audience, “Boys” is an emotionally-charged song with an ethereal vibe inspired by his then four year old son while they were watching Fourth of July fireworks.

The provocative topic and title of the song “Funeral” captures Portella’s unique brand of musical creativity. He describes it perfectly, saying “From the beginning to the end it just drives straight ahead with relentless rhythm and dark enthusiasm. I like the metaphors and symbolism in the lyrics about life, death and rebirth.”

Perhaps Portella’s most recognized song is his first single, “Three (Everyday)”. This catchy, melody-driven track features an upbeat guitar riff with memorable lyrics which the audience loves singing at Portella’s shows. “It's definitely a fan favorite. It always amazes me how many people know the lyrics and sing along,” said Portella.

Currently, Portella performs solo or with his band which is made up of Smith, drummer David Uosikkinen from The Hooters and Steve Butler from Smash Palace. His devoted fans never miss a show or a lyric. This is exactly how Portella likes it. “Both in my song writing and in my ‘day job’ as a criminal defense attorney, I use words to describe and convey emotions, thoughts and perspectives, whether to a music fan, a judge or a jury, so they see and feel what I so strongly believe in.”

Portella is a fan’s musician – approachable, humble and interested in those around him. “I love going out and meeting as many of the people who came to the show as I can. It’s an awesome experience for me, one that I always embrace, interacting and connecting with fans after a show. They’ve taken their time to come see me play and I want them to know how much that means to me.” Whether in front of thousands of fans or a jury of 12 people, Portella’s energetic performances always shine.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Ben Arnold has toured throughout the United States and Europe with various line-ups both solo and with his rollicking live band. He has shared a stage with everyone from Ryan Adams, David Gray, Ben Folds and Lucinda Williams to Ron Sexsmith, Randy Newman, Martin Sexton, David Johanson, Jackson Browne, Amos Lee and even a strangely mysterious week in Holland with Townes Van Zandt in the last year of his life. His lyrics remind you of John Hiatt and he's been told he sings a bit like Randy Newman, but writes hooks like Springsteen used to do in the '80s. His songs explore strong emotions while his music draws on rock, folk, R&B and all genres in between. Ben is also a member of US Rails, which tours regularly in Europe and has released 5 of their own records to date.

After releasing an independent cd in the early 90's Ben was quickly signed to Ruffhouse/Columbia Records where he released "Almost Speechless" a slacker songwriter disc which opened him up to wider international audiences. He has since released several independent records as well as "Calico" on The String Cheese Incidents' label, SciFidelity Records, Nevermind My Blues on Ropeadope and "Simplify" on Blue Rose.

Ben Arnold's debut on VICTOR, Sunday Morning Meltdown, has him musing on the current state of the world and some of the quiet internal spirituality necessary to face it told through some two-fisted piano and acoustic driven, gospel inspired rock n roll.

While playing in Atlantic City they began to draw crowds, mostly from Philadelphia and South Jersey and, naturally, decided Philly would be the next stop. Enjoying great success there, they attracted the attention of writer producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Into the studio they went emerging with “Expressway To Your Heart” written and produced by Gamble and Huff. The record climbed to #3 on Billboard’s R&B chart and #4 on it’s Top 100. It became that their first “crossover” hit and would help to introduce the soon to be popular “TSOP”, “The Sound of Philadelphia”. Following the huge hit, the group toured extensively and enjoyed appearing on the same bill with such diversified acts as Jackie Wilson, The Miracles and Sam and Dave as well as Janis Joplin, the Beach Boys and Sly and the Family Stone among many others. In addition to “Expressway” , there would be three other chart appearances, “Explosion In My Soul”, Mission Impossible (Impossible Mission), and “City of Brotherly Love”. Currently, in addition to their own touring, they are part of David Uosikkinen’s “In the Pocket” project, an all star show consisting of musicians who have contributed to the musical history of Philadelphia. Next year, 2017, they will celebrate fifty years performing together delivering high energy performances featuring “The Sound of Philadelphia”.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist David Ryan Harris always sings, writes, and performs with soul. Whether it be in earlybands such as Follow For Now and Brand New Immortals or over the course of six full-length solo albums, he tells stories that resonate. He’s carried this same spirit while performing with the likes of John Mayer, Dave Matthews, and Santana or producing for Cassandra Wilson and Guy Sebastian—with whom he co-wrote the RIAA platinum-certified “Battle Scars”. Most recently, it drove 2015’s Lightyears, which boasted guest spots from John Mayer, India.Arie, and Nikka Costa. He received acclaim from All Music Guide, Glide Magazine, Elmore Magazine, Performer Magazine, AXS, Relix Magazine, and many others in addition to performing on Fox, CBS, and The CW in between packed tours. His next chapter unfolds on his 2017 seventh offering Songs For Other People. In order to track Songs For Other People, he tapped the talents of drummer Terrence Clark who he met on YouTube, keyboard player Zach Ray, and GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Mike Elizondo [Eminem, Dr. Dre, Fiona Apple, Maroon 5] on bass. They cut the album’s seven jams in less than three weeks’ time during 2016. Between returning to the road on guitar duty for John Mayer in 2017, Harris will be performing across North America on solo shows.

ABOUT THE SHOW

“Her voice was a knockout. Beautiful and crystal clear, it soared over the audience….In just a few minutes, Sarah Lee and the band members who joined her onstage made the cavernous cold space seem small, warm and intimate.” -DC Metro Theatre Arts

Sarah Lee Guthrie’s lineage is undeniable. But if you close your eyes and forget that her last name is synonymous with the river-legacy of a widening current of American folk music, you’d still be drawn to the clarity and soul behind her voice. There is a gentle urgency to her interpretations of the songs she sings and the classic music of her heritage. It flows from the continuity of her family, her vital artistic life today and the river of songs that have guided her to where she now stands.

It’s been hinted at since she first stepped on the stages of Wolf Trap and Carnegie Hall as a teenager in 1993 singing Pete Seeger’s “Sailin’ Down My Golden River” for sold-out audiences. But it was later, when she met her husband, Johnny Irion, grandnephew of Woody Guthrie’s literary kindred spirit, John Steinbeck, that she began to embrace her birthright and her inherent gifts.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Tyler Hilton was singing and playing in coffee houses as a 15 year old, when a chance encounter with Los Angeles radio personalities Mark and Brian from KLOS led to multiple appearances on their radio show, live concert dates with the duo, and national exposure.  He released his first album independently shortly thereafter, which led to major label interest and eventually signing to Maverick/ Warner Records where he released "The Tracks of Tyler Hilton" which garnered two singles on the Billboard Top 40 charts.  While on tour promoting the album, Tyler was cast as his child hood hero Elvis Presley in "Walk the Line" where he worked with T-Bone Burnett on the soundtrack, and for which he received a gold record.

An opportunity to sing on TV's "One Tree Hill,” a notorious breeding ground for new musical talent, led to a series long run, several appearances on MTV's "TRL" with the cast, and a national tour with Gavin DeGraw and Michelle Branch who also sang on the show. Taylor Swift admitted to being a fan, and asked Tyler to star in her music video "Tear Drops on My Guitar" which became a huge crossover hit.  The two appeared together live several times and later Tyler appeared via interactive video on her stadium tour.  The independent comedy "Charlie Bartlett" followed with Robert Downey Jr. and Anton Yelchin and where Tyler met his wife, Megan Park, who was also in the film.

Tyler moved to Nashville where he began exploring his family's country roots and made several records with big producers including Dan Huff, Nathan Chapman, Matt Serletic, and John Alagia.  Sadly, non of these records saw the light of day as staff and roster upheaval plagued Warner Brother Records, and eventually led to Tyler's departure. One of these unreleased songs made their way to Joe Cocker who recorded it on his final album.  Tyler then started his own label, Hooptie Tune Records, and released "Forget the Storm" the following year. It became the first record of Tyler's to gain international success and led to several European tours and a new fervent fan base.  His follow up, the mellow folky country album “Indian Summer,” was recorded live in studio with a bluegrass band including his uncle, Tommy Hilton, on guitar. While recording, Tyler landed a role in Halle Berry's "Extant" on CBS and continued to film the show over the course of its two season run, touring and filming the holiday movie “Christmas on the Bayou” with Randy Travis, Ed Asner, and “One Tree Hill” alum, Hilarie Burton, for which he also recorded the single “One Foot in the Bayou”.

Following the end of “Extant,” Tyler landed a starring role in ABCs sitcom, "The Fluffy Shop"  alongside Gabrielle Iglesias where he played a character named after himself but, ultimately, the show wasn’t picked up.  Tyler’s currently based in Los Angeles where he’s working on a new album.
