ABOUT THE SHOW

Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist David Ryan Harris always sings, writes, and performs with soul. Whether it be in earlybands such as Follow For Now and Brand New Immortals or over the course of six full-length solo albums, he tells stories that resonate. He’s carried this same spirit while performing with the likes of John Mayer, Dave Matthews, and Santana or producing for Cassandra Wilson and Guy Sebastian—with whom he co-wrote the RIAA platinum-certified “Battle Scars”. Most recently, it drove 2015’s Lightyears, which boasted guest spots from John Mayer, India.Arie, and Nikka Costa. He received acclaim from All Music Guide, Glide Magazine, Elmore Magazine, Performer Magazine, AXS, Relix Magazine, and many others in addition to performing on Fox, CBS, and The CW in between packed tours. His next chapter unfolds on his 2017 seventh offering Songs For Other People. In order to track Songs For Other People, he tapped the talents of drummer Terrence Clark who he met on YouTube, keyboard player Zach Ray, and GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Mike Elizondo [Eminem, Dr. Dre, Fiona Apple, Maroon 5] on bass. They cut the album’s seven jams in less than three weeks’ time during 2016. Between returning to the road on guitar duty for John Mayer in 2017, Harris will be performing across North America on solo shows.

ABOUT THE SHOW

HEAVY CREAM is quickly becoming the definitive tribute to CREAM, rock music's original SUPER GROUP!
Formed from Britain's best talent in 60's musical virtuosity, Cream featured the legendary Ginger Baker on drums, the incredible Jack Bruce on bass and lead vocals, and the man they called 'God' on guitar...Eric Clapton. 50 years ago in 1967 they recorded the landmark album, DISRAELI GEARS. That LP's ground breaking sound along with a supreme live show performing reputation have left a lasting legacy of the first 'Power Trio' that blended rock, jazz, blues, and psychedelia into the standard that all other classic rock bands would be measured against.  For the first time, with stunning historical accuracy in both look and sound, a tribute to Cream has been assembled that can perform DISRAELI GEARS in it's entirety and more of CREAM and even BLIND FAITH'S hits...HEAVY CREAM out of PHILADELPHIA.

Boasting spec replicas of the famous 'Fool' artwork guitars of Clapton and Bruce and Ginger Baker's legendary double Ludwig drum kit, as well as Cream's signature stack of British Marshall Amps, plus authentic wardrobe that Cream actually used at their most memorable 60's shows, this band has all the requisite parts to re-create Cream's classic concerts for today's audiences. And they have the talent too! Picked for their uncanny abilities to mimic Cream in both look and sound, three of South Jersey/Philadelphia's best musicians have set out bring back the experience hearing and seeing the Cream's music LIVE!

Dion Paci on lead vocals and bass as Jack Bruce, is a Berklee College of Music alum, a founding member of the award winning music series 'Mad Cow' with G. Calvin Weston, a member and producer in the progressive rock/jazz-fusion all-star group 'As Human' and a performing member of Michael Schrieve's(Santana) Spellbinder. Dion currently performs and periodically tours with Seattle based band Willow and the 'Chase the Magic Dog' project while still teaching master musician clinics throughout the country. Dion also hosts popular weekly jam sessions in the Philadelphia area and maintains an impressive and endless working list of highly notable musicians in the rock, hip-hop, R&B and jazz worlds such as: Bernie Worrell (P-Funk, Talking Heads) John Medeski and Billy Martin (MMW), Jamaaladeen Tacuma (Ornnette Coleman, James Blood Ulmer), and more.

Steve Iannettoni on drums as Ginger Baker, is another super multi-instrumentalist talent who currently performs in not one, but two of Philadephia's most popular young bands - as a drummer, backing the classic rock jammer, CRISBIE, while also the bassist and a vocalist in the indie rock group, SONNDER. A 2011 choice award winner in the Berklee School of Music HS Jazz competition, Steve's star is on the rise and his red hair flare makes him a perfect fit for Ginger!

Billy 'THE KID' Thoden handles vocals and lead guitar as Eric Clapton.  At only 16 years old, Billy Thoden has already enjoyed a storied professional music career. Discovered by Jimi Hendrix's bassist, Mr. Billy Cox at age 10, Billy was already a kid phenom blues guitarist, able to play the guitar behind his head or back flawlessly and in showman style ala Hendrix & SRV while leading bands and lead singing. At only 11 - 12 years old, he began a blues festival touring schedule that hasn't stopped.  Fronting the "Billy the Kid" band, he continues playing top stages from Nashville's NAM to Nova Scotia's Guitar Fest! He's opened for major acts like Robert Randolph and Pat Travers, met and performed with greats like Eric Gales, Dickey Betts and Billy Cox and received personal tutelage from blues/rock legends like Elvin Bishop and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, who gave him the moniker "The Kid."

Special guest...Sam Gutman on vocals and keyboards as Stevie Winwood.  When the Heavy Cream band delves into the Blind Faith catalog, they invite another South Jersey/Philly specialist musician to fill in for some Heavy 'Traffic' in the set.  Hailing from both the University of the Arts and Berklee College of Music, Sam Gutman has emerged as one of Philadelphia's elite keyboard/pianists.  He is a member of the Philly's popular Nick Greeley and the Operators as well as vocalist and melodic force on the keys for the powerhouse acid-jazz-rock-funk fusion project, OUT OF THE BEARDSPACE. OOTB is gaining critical acclaim and loyal following as well as founding the popular musical & arts showcase event, BEARDFEST.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Jack Petruzzelli is a seasoned touring and recording musician. As a multi-instrument performer, producer and songwriter, he has had the privilege of working with a variety of artists that include Patti Smith, Ian Hunter, Joan Osborne, Rufus Wainwright and Sara Bareilles, to name a few. In the studio, Jack has collaborated with platinum artists to unknown sensations. He co-produced Joan Osborne's album Bring It On Home, which was nominated for Best Blues album of the year at the 2012 Grammy Awards. Jack is currently working on co-producing an upcoming album of Bob Dylan covers for Joan Osborne, recorded at his studio in the Pocono mountains of Pennsylvania. He is a founding member of The Fab Faux, a critically acclaimed, nationally touring Beatles tribute band (that doesn’t dress up). Currently, Jack can be found onstage playing with The Fab Faux and various other artists he supports or producing projects in his Pennsylvania studio. In 2017, he released his debut solo album, Lake Songs, under the pseudonym Jack Snax.

Jim Boggia: For more than 20 years, Jim Boggia has been winning over fans, critics, contemporaries and luminaries alike with his uncompromising devotion to the sort of winsomely nostalgic, emotionally direct songcraft that’s impervious to age. His sonically intelligent retro-pop manifesto informs three studio albums—2001’s Fidelity Is the Enemy, 2005’s Safe in Sound and 2008’s Misadventures in Stereo—and he’s worked with a startling array of artists, including Aimee Mann, Juliana Hatfield, Mike Viola, Tracy Bonham, Bernadette Peters, David Poe, NRBQ’s Big Al Anderson, famed Beach Boys lyricist Tony Asher, MC5 guitarist Wayne Kramer, Attractions drummer Pete Thomas, esteemed ’70s pop misfit Emitt Rhodes, and Canadian songstress Amanda Marshall. Also an accomplished singer and guitarist, Boggia performs with the well-known New York City-based Beatles tribute band, the Fab Faux, as well as Mad Dogs & Dominos, an 18-piece collective headed by a heavyweight roster that includes Blues Brothers alum Lou Marini and producer John Leventhal. Oh, and he plays a mean ukulele.

For the last 25 years, Rich Pagano has made a living as a New York City session drummer, singer and touring musician. His recording, producing and stage credits include, Patti Smith, Rosanne Cash, Robbie Robertson, Ray Davies, Willie Nile, gospel icon Marie Knight, Joan Osborne, Levon Helm, Roger Waters, Mott The Hoople, legend Ian Hunter and the premier Beatles band, The Fab Faux in which he is a founding member and singer/drummer. Some of the mentioned artists have recorded at his New York City studio, New Calcutta Recordings with Rich as engineer or as producer. Other passions include teaching a class that he created called, The Art of Recording Classic Drums as an adjunct teacher at The Clive Davis Institute of Music at NYU in New York City or at his studio, and booking musicians, bands and events through his company, Hi-Fidelity Music. Currently, Rich is in the studio recording his second solo release with his band, the sugarCane cups.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Getting music fans to agree on anything is next to impossible. That’s why the quick rise to national recognition of 23-year-old identical twin sisters Nalani & Sarina is such an astounding story. These two audacious young artists, from west-central New Jersey, have developed a distinctive blend of traditionalist soul-rock and modern pop, and their stylistic alchemy is likely to keep their faces in the spotlight for years to come. Legendary music critic and Sirius radio host Dave Marsh, called their EP, Scattered World, “some of the best music being made in 2016”, and fans, critics and taste-makers have echoed his praise. With their catchy AND meaningful songs, Nalani & Sarina have all the elements in place for success and stardom.

The Cryers have been performing since 1991, throughout the U.S.A. & Canada, as well as their home base of NJ/NY. The band's sound is based deep within the roots of Rock 'n Roll. It features a solid beat, captivating harmonies, and powerfully written songs. Along with their original material, the band performs with gutsy exuberance, tunes from the vast archives of Rock 'n Roll, breathing new life into timeless classics as well as contemporary songs from the cutting edge. Sid Berstein, the man responsible for bringing the Beatles to America, called this band "Magical!"

ABOUT THE SHOW

“Her voice was a knockout. Beautiful and crystal clear, it soared over the audience….In just a few minutes, Sarah Lee and the band members who joined her onstage made the cavernous cold space seem small, warm and intimate.” -DC Metro Theatre Arts

Sarah Lee Guthrie’s lineage is undeniable. But if you close your eyes and forget that her last name is synonymous with the river-legacy of a widening current of American folk music, you’d still be drawn to the clarity and soul behind her voice. There is a gentle urgency to her interpretations of the songs she sings and the classic music of her heritage. It flows from the continuity of her family, her vital artistic life today and the river of songs that have guided her to where she now stands.

It’s been hinted at since she first stepped on the stages of Wolf Trap and Carnegie Hall as a teenager in 1993 singing Pete Seeger’s “Sailin’ Down My Golden River” for sold-out audiences. But it was later, when she met her husband, Johnny Irion, grandnephew of Woody Guthrie’s literary kindred spirit, John Steinbeck, that she began to embrace her birthright and her inherent gifts.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Tyler Hilton was singing and playing in coffee houses as a 15 year old, when a chance encounter with Los Angeles radio personalities Mark and Brian from KLOS led to multiple appearances on their radio show, live concert dates with the duo, and national exposure.  He released his first album independently shortly thereafter, which led to major label interest and eventually signing to Maverick/ Warner Records where he released "The Tracks of Tyler Hilton" which garnered two singles on the Billboard Top 40 charts.  While on tour promoting the album, Tyler was cast as his child hood hero Elvis Presley in "Walk the Line" where he worked with T-Bone Burnett on the soundtrack, and for which he received a gold record.

An opportunity to sing on TV's "One Tree Hill,” a notorious breeding ground for new musical talent, led to a series long run, several appearances on MTV's "TRL" with the cast, and a national tour with Gavin DeGraw and Michelle Branch who also sang on the show. Taylor Swift admitted to being a fan, and asked Tyler to star in her music video "Tear Drops on My Guitar" which became a huge crossover hit.  The two appeared together live several times and later Tyler appeared via interactive video on her stadium tour.  The independent comedy "Charlie Bartlett" followed with Robert Downey Jr. and Anton Yelchin and where Tyler met his wife, Megan Park, who was also in the film.

Tyler moved to Nashville where he began exploring his family's country roots and made several records with big producers including Dan Huff, Nathan Chapman, Matt Serletic, and John Alagia.  Sadly, non of these records saw the light of day as staff and roster upheaval plagued Warner Brother Records, and eventually led to Tyler's departure. One of these unreleased songs made their way to Joe Cocker who recorded it on his final album.  Tyler then started his own label, Hooptie Tune Records, and released "Forget the Storm" the following year. It became the first record of Tyler's to gain international success and led to several European tours and a new fervent fan base.  His follow up, the mellow folky country album “Indian Summer,” was recorded live in studio with a bluegrass band including his uncle, Tommy Hilton, on guitar. While recording, Tyler landed a role in Halle Berry's "Extant" on CBS and continued to film the show over the course of its two season run, touring and filming the holiday movie “Christmas on the Bayou” with Randy Travis, Ed Asner, and “One Tree Hill” alum, Hilarie Burton, for which he also recorded the single “One Foot in the Bayou”.

Following the end of “Extant,” Tyler landed a starring role in ABCs sitcom, "The Fluffy Shop"  alongside Gabrielle Iglesias where he played a character named after himself but, ultimately, the show wasn’t picked up.  Tyler’s currently based in Los Angeles where he’s working on a new album.

ABOUT THE SHOW

During the mid-to-late Sixties, Steve Katz, Grammy award winner and founding member of Blood, Sweat and Tears, sailed the band into uncharted territory. Before combining brass and rock music, he transitioned out of the Greenwich Village folk scene and into jazz-rock with BS&T. He has graced such legendary stages as the Monterey Pop Festival, and Woodstock. Outside of his own music, Katz produced Lou Reed’s albums Rock ‘n’ Roll Animal and Sally Can’t Dance, as well as Short Stories Tall Tales by the Irish band Horslips, and the Elliot Murphy album Night Lights.  Katz recently released the autobiographical memoir, Blood, Sweat, and My Rock 'n' Roll Years: Is Steve Katz a Rock Star? Katz’ sordid history is five-decades strong, and the artist continues to mystify audiences everywhere.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Peter Klett joined Candlebox from its inception in 1990. Candlebox was the first successful act on Madonna’s Maverick Records, which went on to sign Alanis MorissetteDeftones and The Prodigy. They found immediate success with the release of their self-titled debut album in July 1993. It featured some of the band’s biggest hit singles, including “Far Behind” and “You”, and was certified platinum by the RIAA four times. Their next two albums, Lucy and Happy Pills, also sold well. After troubles with Maverick, Candlebox went on indefinite hiatus in 1999 after an alleged attempt to be freed from their contract. The band reunited in 2006, and two years later, they released their fourth album Into the Sun as well as a live CD/DVD Alive In Seattle. Klett’s final album with the band was the release of Love Stories and Other Musings on April 23rd, 2012.

The band has toured or played selected shows with such bands as Living Colour, The Flaming Lips, Our Lady Peace, Rush, Henry Rollins, Aerosmith, Godsmack, Metallica, Radiohead, The Offspring, Sponge, Seaweed, Hinder and Suicidal Tendencies. They were also a featured band on the main-stage at Woodstock ’94 and made repeat live performances on Late Show with David Letterman.

In November of 2009, Terry McDermott headed to Seattle to Klett’s studio and started recording their new material, which eventually became Lotus Crush's debut album. After recording the first couple of songs with just acoustic guitar and vocals, the two of them realized they had something special. The next logical step was to complete the lineup with musicians that shared the same drive and passion for the new music.

Apollo Under Fire is a band that strives to reach the soul.  In a day and age where we seem content to focus our attention outward, AUF is using music to look inward.  Over the last 20+ years, they have each soul searched their way through the music industry song by song, with a wide range of success, all the while learning more about themselves and growing closer to God. Two of those paths came together in 2013 when Donald Carpenter (SubmerseD, Eye Empire) met Peter Klett (CandleboxLotus Crush) at a Benefit Concert they were both performing at in Orlando, FL for the Johnny Damon Foundation.  The two immediately connected and had sparked what would become Apollo Under Fire. In early 2014, the stars aligned again. DC and Peter were both coming off the road and had been presented with the opportunity to get in the studio and start writing.

ABOUT THE SHOW

The Peace Creeps is the current musical project featuring former A’s captivating frontman Richard Bush. Richard and his A’s were the darlings of Philly in the ‘70s and early ‘80s and had the hits “After Last Night” and “A Woman’s Got The Power”, which was later recorded by both Clarence Clemons and Jennifer Holliday. They released two albums on Arista Records and toured nationally, but they disbanded due to disputes with their record company. After that Bush had a few other bands and then took a long hiatus to write and record. Finally, along with guitarist John Marchiano, bassist Roy Fisher and drummer Jeff Pancoast, The Peace Creeps were born. Bush and song writing partner, AJay McLaughlin’s clever lyricism, along with their Elvis Costello–like wit, Faces–like looseness and the pop sensibilities of the Beatles are reasons for their appeal. Their second album, the backward looking/forward sounding, “Time Machine” is available at CD Baby.

Founded by Richard Bush, late of Philadelphia favorites the A's, the Peace Creeps feature a heady mix of Elvis Costello-like wit, Faces-like looseness and the wide open pop sensibilities of the Beatles.

ABOUT LAURENCE JUBER

“One of the world's most remarkable acoustic guitarists.” - The South China Post

GRAMMY® winning guitarist Laurence Juber is a solo performer, recording artist, composer and arranger. His playing fuses folk, jazz, blues, pop and classical styles, creating a multi-faceted performance that belies the use of only one instrument.

First internationally recognized as lead guitarist in Paul McCartney's Wings, with whom he won a Grammy, Juber has since established himself as world-renowned guitar virtuoso and entertainer.

Juber, known to his fans as LJ, has recorded more than two dozen albums which spotlight his unique touch and tone on acoustic guitar. His latest release, LJ Can’t Stop Playing The Beatles, is his third album of solo guitar arrangements of iconic songs by the Fab Four.

LJ Plays The Beatles was voted one of Acoustic Guitar Magazine's all-time Top Ten albums. His solo arrangementand performance of The Pink Panther Theme earned him a second Grammy, while his arrangement of Stand By Me was heard nationally in a Diamonds Are Forever commercial. Juber’s DVD-Audio project Guitar Noir (AIX Records) won a CES Demmy award for best audio.

His 'photo memoir' Guitar With Wings was recently published by Dalton Watson Fine Books.

As a studio musician, he can be heard on recordings from artists as diverse as Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks, Seal and the French chanteuse Sylvie Vartin, plus he is featured on the soundtracks to hundreds of TV shows such as Home Improvement and movies including the academy award-winning Dirty Dancing, Good Will Hunting and Pocahontas.

Juber co-composed the soundtrack of the award-winning video game Diablo III and scored the NBC Dateline documentary Children Of The Harvest. His music is also featured in the Ken Burns’ documentary The Tenth Inning

Guitarmania to Beatlemania

In the period since Andres Segovia consolidated the role the guitar in the high-art world of the concert hall, we have come to associate the term classical guitar with a generally Spanish style of instrument and repertoire. The guitar is iconic and ubiquitous in popular music,

yet the true light of its history and repertoire largely remains hidden under a bushel.

The ‘Guitarmania’ of the early romantic period engaged such prominent musicians as Berlioz, Schubert and Paganini, although few of the instrument’s most celebrated exponents are recognized in mainstream musical history.

A direct line can be traced from the virtuosi of that era, through the later 19th century American classical ‘parlor guitar’, to the roots of jazz, blues, folk and pop music practices and onwards to the ‘British Invasion’ of the 1960’s.

This session focuses on the six string guitar and its relatives, from its roots in the Medieval era, through its explosive popularity in early 19th century Europe, the subsequent journey to the United States, its mass marketing, social function and continued utility in popular music.

With special attention to the work of C.F. Martin & Co. we examine the guitar’s golden eras of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as the journeys of its creators, practitioners and luthiers. The presentation will highlight the cultural and social universality of the instrument and show how its robust repertoire was, and continues to be, developed. Using contemporary and historical examples, there will be entertaining demonstrations of guitaristic techniques and concepts.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Drummer Simon Kirke kept the beat as a founding member of two of the 70s most popular bluesy hard rocker bands - Free and Bad Company. A multi-instrumentalist, Kirke is best known for his loose, yet powerful back-beat drumming and for co-writing hits like, "All Right Now," "Can't Get Enough," "Bad Company" and "Ready for Love," with longtime bandmate and singer, Paul Rodgers. Though Simon is often found out on the road touring with Bad Company or Ringo's Starr & His All-Star Band, he continues to be a prolific singer-songwriter and storyteller, performing inspiring fresh material from his new solo album, "All Because of You," both in-front-of and behind the drum kit with his backing band, The Empty Pockets out of Chicago.

ABOUT THE SHOW

Madmen Across The River:
Ben Arnold & Band with Acoustic Sets by Scott Bricklin & Jim Boggia performing the songs of 4 Way Street followed by US Rails featuring Ben Arnold, Tom Gillam, Scott Bricklin & Matt Muir

Ben Arnold has toured throughout the United States and Europe with various line-ups both solo and with his rollicking live band. He has shared a stage with everyone from Ryan Adams, David Gray, Ben Folds and Lucinda Williams to Ron Sexsmith, Randy Newman, Martin Sexton, David Johanson, Jackson Browne, Amos Lee and even a strangely mysterious week in Holland with Townes Van Zandt in the last year of his life. His lyrics remind you of John Hiatt and he's been told he sings a bit like Randy Newman, but writes hooks like Springsteen used to do in the '80s. His songs explore strong emotions while his music draws on rock, folk, R&B and all genres in between. Ben is also a member of US Rails, which tours regularly in Europe and has released 5 of their own records to date.

After releasing an independent cd in the early 90's Ben was quickly signed to Ruffhouse/Columbia Records where he released "Almost Speechless" a slacker songwriter disc which opened him up to wider international audiences. He has since released several independent records as well as "Calico" on The String Cheese Incidents' label, SciFidelity Records, Nevermind My Blues on Ropeadope and "Simplify" on Blue Rose.

His latest solo release "Lost Keys" is already drawing very positive reviews nationally and is in rotation quite regularly on Philadelphia's WXPN Radio. Featuring the songs "Stupid Love", "Nobody Hurtin' Like Me" and "When Love Fades Away", It is a collection of material drawn from the music of Motown, Stax, The Sound of Philadelphia and street corner Doo-Wop. WXPN Radio says "Lost Keys" is "A sleek and soulful work from a refined tunesmith. The brass arrangements paired with his husky baritone recall The Afghan Whigs’ New Orleans-rooted LP 1965; his self-described “sad guy drinking alone at the bar” ballads .(“Nobody Hurtin’ Like Me”) have a bit of Closing Time-era Tom Waits in them; and his pop nuggets are impossibly poppy, like the Randy Newman-esque bounce of “Stupid Love” that, I guarantee you, will be stuck in your head in the best possible way!"

ABOUT MARSHALL CRENSHAW

Over 25 years since breaking through to critical and commercial acclaim with his 1982 self-titled debut and its infectious, eradefining pop hit "Someday, Someway," Marshall Crenshaw creates an incredible new chapter in his career with his 429 Records debut Jaggedland. Crenshaw's first studio recording in more than six years is his most musically dynamic and lyrically intimate collection yet.

Classic Crenshaw attributes including an indelible sense of melody and tuneful essence combine to create a rich warmth and intimacy on every song of Jaggedland. The recording has a powerful vibe of immediacy thanks to Crenshaw's warm vocals and riveting guitar work. He takes the production to its highest levels working with a roster of well known musical heroes and veteran producers. Crenshaw first recorded two tracks in Upstate New York with Stewart Lerman (The Roches, Dar Williams), the melancholy "Sunday Blues" and the fiery rocker "Someone Told Me." Crenshaw did seven of the tracks at Sage and Sound Studios in Los Angeles with producer/engineer Jerry Boys (REM, Richard Thompson, Buena Vista Social Club), who had been his "wish list" since he heard the Mambo Sinuendo album Boys engineered for Ry Cooder and Cuban guitarist Manuel Galban in 2003. Highlights of these West Coast sessions are "Passing Through," the hopeful "Eventually" and the powerful "Long Hard Road."

The album title Jaggedland is a term Crenshaw says best describes the current state of his brain and consciousness. Simply put, the 12 songs are musical observations about the human experience, mortality, the state of the world and of course, love as viewed through the inimitable Crenshaw perspective. The sessions involved key contributions from legendary drummer Jim Keltner (whose credits include The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Brian Wilson and Joni Mitchell); guitarists Greg Leisz (Lucinda Williams, Robert Plant) and the MC5's Wayne Kramer as well as legendary vibraphonist, Emil Richards (Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, Frank Sinatra).

"It was exciting and inspiring to work with such amazing musicians and producers. I fell in love with Mambo Sinuendo five years ago," Crenshaw continues, "and when I started thinking about recording my next record, Jerry immediately came to mind. When I found out that he was once an assistant engineer for The Beatles--that sealed the deal!"

"I also owe Stewart Lerman much of the credit for getting the ball rolling and inspiring me to start thinking about writing and recording this album," Crenshaw adds. "When we ran into each other at a political event in 2004, he gave me a pep talk and said he wanted to work with me. We hooked up about a year later and I started dabbling in new songs. As things went along, I started to feel like the material was taking on some unexpected dimensions and it dawned on me that I still have such a huge appreciation and respect for records as an art form--and a deep love for the power of songs and music. Even at this late stage of the game, with so many years and recordings behind me, I felt compelled to step up and reach as deep into myself as I could. That renewed sense of passion and commitment is the driving force behind the songs on Jaggedland, which I truly believe are some of my best ever."

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Crenshaw began playing guitar at age ten and he received his first break playing John Lennon in the off-Broadway company of Beatlemania. In 1987, he played Buddy Holly in the Richie Valens biopic "La Bamba."

Living in NYC, he recorded the single "Something's Gonna Happen" for Alan Betrock's Shake Records, which led to a deal with Warner Bros. His debut album, Marshall Crenshaw was acclaimed as a pop masterpiece upon its release in 1982 and established him as a first-rate songwriter, singer and guitarist. The record spawned the Top 40 single "Someday, Someway," which rockabilly singer Robert Gordon scored a hit with a year earlier. Crenshaw's second album, 1983's Field Day, was another critical smash and led to a successful slate of 20-plus years of studio recordings that offered a fascinating evolutionary journey through an array of musical landscapes.

A quote from Trouser Press sums up Marshall Crenshaw's early career: "Although he was seen as a latter-day Buddy Holly at the outset, he soon proved too talented and original to be anyone but himself." All Music Guide captured Crenshaw's vibe perfectly: "He writes songs that are melodic, hooky and emotionally true, and he sings and plays them with an honesty and force that still finds room for humor without venom."

As Crenshaw was developing Jaggedland's mix of poignant and incisive love songs and musings on mortality, he ventured once again into the film world, co-penning the title track to the hilarious, critically acclaimed John C. Reilly film "Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story"; the track was nominated for a 2008 Golden Globe and a 2008 Grammy Award.

Over the last few years, Crenshaw has played 40 - 50 shows a year on what he dubs "the NPR singer-songwriter circuit." Says Crenshaw, "This album took a lot of wear and tear on my emotions, but in the end I think it's one of my best ever and I am so excited to have worked with so many of my favorite players on it. When people ask me why I keep making music after all these years, I have a simple answer: because I have to. For lack of a more colorful term, there is truly something magical to it and I never take it for granted."
